Sam Houston Forest Equestrian Association

WELCOME!

The Sam Houston Forest Equestrian Association was officially formed in July 1994, after a meeting of forest user groups and the US Forest Service of the Sam Houston National Forest, in October 1993. We became "chartered" in 1995 and a non-profit 501-C organization.

The mission of SHFEA is to work with the Forest Service and other user groups of the Sam Houston National Forest in establishing equestrian trails and campgrounds. This is an ongoing project. We ride on both "sides" of the SHNF. Coldspring off of FM 2666 and the New Waverly area FM 1375.

Our goal is to establish equestrian trails in both areas.

We have worked with the Forest Service on a parking area for equestrians located on the West side of the forest, FM 1375 and forest road 234 and the Coldspring area FS 217-A.

The PMT's or Multi use trails are accessible just off of the FS 234 area. Currently there are 85 miles of multi use trails located on the Lake Conroe side of the SHNF. These trails were developed by TRH (Trail Riders of Houston, ORV club & the SHNF) and are maintained by them and the forest service.

As a reminder to all there is a day user fee required when using the multiuse trails, located on the New Waverly side of the SHNF. It is $5.00 per day per person or $25.00 for the annual pass. The pass should be carried on your person while you are riding on the multiuse trails. You can obtain this only at the SHNF District Office located on FM 1375 Mon-Fri, 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM.

SHFEA urges all forest users to acquire this permit. The pass is for one year from date of purchase.
